Child Rights & Relief

India is confronted by a distressing situation in which thousands of children—particularly girls—are abandoned and left without adequate care each year. In response to this crisis, TEWFI established the Uluru Children’s Home (UCH) in 2001, offering a safe and nurturing environment for some of Tamil Nadu’s most vulnerable children.
Since 2003, UCH has been situated in a peaceful location overlooking the Bay of Bengal backwaters. It provides not just shelter, but a true home for hundreds of children who might otherwise be forced to navigate life entirely on their own.

The Uluru Children’s Home offers:

  • Nutritious meals provided to all children
  • Fresh milk daily from resident cows and seasonal vegetables harvested from the garden
  • A purpose-built computer centre to support educational programmes
  • A rainwater collection system and environmentally friendly wastewater treatment facilities
  • Opportunities for children to maintain contact, where possible, with their extended families
  • Access to recreational activities such as cricket, soccer, volleyball, and a range of games on purpose-built courts
  • Children may remain at the home until they reach 18 years of age (typically completing high school), or they may leave earlier if their circumstances allow
